Platelet Rich Plasma
(Hair/Skin Rejuvenation/Joint Pain)
What is Platelet Rich Plasma?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a simple procedure done here in our office using the patient’s own blood. We extract the component of blood that is rich in platelets and enzymes and carefully inject it back into specific areas of the body over the course of 30-45 mins.
When injected back into the skin, PRP releases a large dose of bioactive proteins (growth factor) which are responsible for attracting macrophages, mesenchymal stem cells, and osteoblasts. These promote the removal of necrotic tissue and enhance follicle rejuvenation, tissue regeneration and collagen repair.
PRP has proven its effectiveness throughout many medical specialties. Including:
- Sports medicine
- Dental implants & sinus elevations
- Dermatology (chronic would healing)
- Cosmetic surgery
During the last few decades, scientific developments from cellular and molecular biology have progressed to the understanding of wound healing and tissue regeneration process. This stimulated the research and development of multidisciplinary fields like regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.

Dermal Fillers are volume expanding prosthetics consisting of calcium hydroxylapatite, hyaluronic acid or polyalkylimide. When injected just under the skin dermal fillers can improve the appearance of wrinkles or loss of volume of the face and lips. Typically 1-2 syringes of product is enough to make a dramatic improvement visible immediately but does not usually stabilize for at least 2 weeks.
The effects of fillers can last up to several years but how long depends ultimately on the type of dermal filler injected and level of metabolism of the patient. This may mean a more physically active patient with a high metabolism may require more frequent injections to maintain the appearance afforded by the injections.
Unlike anti-wrinkle injections (commonly known as Botox) dermal fillers have no effect on muscle function therefore it does not “paralyze” muscles of the face.
The entire procedure will be completed in about 75 mins in the comfort of our office.
